Toy Shop Window 1840-1860

Seeing it as a great opportunity to involve the other clubs
in the Orlando area in a team collaborative effort, the Central
Florida Doll Club invited the other two area clubs, The Belles
and Beaux Doll & Toy Guild, and the Greater Orlando Doll
Club to join them in this endeavor. Together, they divided the
historical eras and over the period of one year met, designed
and built their similar sets to create the special exhibit "Toy
Shop Windows: Through the Eyes of a Child" for the 2017
UFDC Convention. The idea was to envision what a toy shop
window might look like through a child's eyes from the 1840s
through the present. Each toy shop window included dolls,
toys and ephemera of each period.
Each exhibit window creator was given six wooden
crates, a top shelf, wood trim and three tri-fold project boards.
Their challenge was to use those materials to create a faux
shop window that captured the architectural spirit of the era.

Automaton Case

Upon entering the exhibit, two cases filled with French
and German automatons on loan from a central Florida
collection greeted visitors and were designed to set the stage
for a toy shop journey through time.

1840-60 Window

During this period, many boutique-type stores used
their small pane windows to display their products to
lure in buyers. Although not displayed around a unifying
theme, many of the dolls and toys in this era included dolls
