This group represents the Lapland people. Ranging in height from 10 to 14-inches, they show a combination of fur with colorful felt trim used to adorn their coats. The back of the parkas are plain. All are on stump bodies with no defined arms and are stiff and unbendable. The tallest, 14-inches in height, has a wooden head on a straw-stuffed cloth body and a fur parka. Felt designs decorate the front of the jacket and the cap. The four winds cap is not always worn now - if the wearer placed the points all facing the front, it denoted that the wearer was not married. Variations of this cap exist depending on the area the wearer comes from. The smallest of the three is 10 inches with a celluloid head. She is costumed entirely in dark blue felt with yellow and red/orange designs sewn onto its outfit. 128 WINTER 2018 The smaller 11-inch doll has a celluloid head on a cloth body and is dressed in white fur. He wears a similar felt design sewn onto its coat. The hat is decorated and topped off with a red yarn pompom.
