DRESS BOW: Cut a bias strip of dress fabric 30-inches by 4 ½-inches. Folded in half, the center measures about 2 ¼ -inches and tapers to the ends like the points you see in the picture. Fold in half RT side to RT side and stitch the raw edges with ⅛-inch seam, tapering to points on each end. Leave a small opening at the center to allow for turning to the right side. Turn and overcast the opening with invisible stitches. Fold in half, pin at the length you want the bow tails to be, then manipulate the bow into something you like. Tack the bow to the center back of the dress so the tails are above the hemline. FAUX BUTTON CLOSURE: I made 8 covered ¼ -inch buttons as decorative closure for the dress. The original antique dress had mother-of-pearl buttons. I used hooks and thread loops for the actual closure of my dress but hand-worked buttonholes would look nice if you are good at working them. To make the covered buttons, use a hole punch to punch eight ¼-inch circles of medium weight cardboard (refer to the white dot in the picture). Draw an ⅛-inch larger circle around the cardboard button as a pattern for the fabric (refer to the tan-colored circle in picture). Use the pattern to cut 8 circles from the dress fabric. Stitch a running stitch around each fabric circle, set the cardboard button on top of the fabric circle, pull the thread up tight and tie it off. DOLL NEWS * ufDc.Org 31http://www.ufDc.Org
