from the line, making them both

accessories appeared in many major
retailer catalogs such as Sears and
Montgomery Ward.
We cannot ignore some
similarities of Judy with her
dark hairstyle and the image of
Jackie Kennedy. For years there
were stories that connected these
dolls to the Kennedys, and how
they were pulled from shelves
after the assassination of John F.
Kennedy. However, they were still
available in mail order catalogs
in 1964, a year after the tragic
event occurred. Speculation as to
their disappearance and demise
may be better attributed to the
shortcomings of their size, as they
were taller than Barbie and Ken and
unable to share wardrobes.
Also, their bodies were a bit
clunky with wide stances, lacking
pose-ability. Another feature that may
have left a child slightly confused
was the gray streak in Lisa's hair,
which resembled the strange hairstyle
of Lilly Munster, from the popular
television show the Munsters.
The Littlechap Family
background stories and props
were designed to create roles and
playtime possibilities, however

imaginary "pretend." Other dolls,
such as Mattel's Barbie and Ideal's
Tammy, had less characterization
and provided a "blank slate,"
allowing a child to determine the
doll's career path and role.
