his loyal senior master, was not familiar to German-speaking
children at the turn of the 20th century. It was, however, very
popular with English audiences - and Steiff was trying very
KDUGWREXLOGLWVEXVLQHVVWKURXJKRXW(XURSH$VDUHVXOW
the company produced an "Old Mother Hubbard" doll in 43
cm from 1909 through 1917. This fully jointed felt doll wore
a felt cape, cotton dress, white apron, and a black, triangular
shaped felt hat. She also carried a wooden cane.
Not a company to leave money - or an opportunity -
on the table, it is interesting to note that Steiff "repurposed"
its "Old Mother Hubbard" doll as a "Witch" doll for the
