More Russian Stockinette Dolls by Linda Holderbaum Six-inches tall, these two dolls stand on either side of a peasant boy. The doll on the left is a Mordwa woman and wears a red hat or tarboosh. The peasant boy in the middle has a tag sewn under his outfit that reads: MADE IN SOVIET//UNION//Peasant Boy. The girl on the right is tagged: MADE IN SOVIET UNION//A girl with shawl. Between them is the 1941 Kimport Doll Imports ad that featured them. Supposedly the Mordwa woman could be found as part of a set of six dolls made in the 1920's and 1930's. Other dolls in the set include: Peasant Boy, Ryazan Girl, Peasant Girl on the Road, Girl with a Shawl and Mascha. The ad for DOURAK AND MOLYNA OF RUSSIA is shown here. The girls sold for 50 cents each and the peasant boy for 35 cents. This ad also ran in the 1939 catalog. Just as interesting aand somewhat easier to obtain are the smaller (10-inch and under) dolls.
