The Operetta and Hit Parade series were educational for children. This series illustrates the
transition from bisque to plastic. They were certainly pretty to look at, with fancy hats and
lovely dresses. Adult collectors can relate to the operettas and hit parade songs from that
era, which makes an interesting series to collect.

The company introduced the "Big and Little Sisters." The dolls are 4-½-inch and 5-½ inch
tall with nine different pairs in this series. The original successful series, Months of the Year,
Days of the Week, Storybook and Nursery Rhyme series continued, but now in plastic.

to plastic doll molds began
in 1947. This introduction of
plastic caused an explosion
of new ideas and molds
in the doll industry. The
Nancy Ann Storybook Doll
Company jumped right in,
changing their dolls from
bisque to plastic.
In 1953, a completely
new concept was brought
to the doll market. To
compete with other doll
companies, an 8-inch
strung plastic play doll
was introduced and sold
extremely well, continuing
in various versions until
´0XIÀHµZDVDVWUXQJ
straight-leg doll with dynel
hair, no eyebrows and the
sweetest face ever. She was
a doll to play with, unlike
the "collectible" Storybook
dolls that just sit on a shelf.
This new little plastic doll
RIIHUHGKXQGUHGVRIRXWÀWV
over the years. From a
child's perspective, with
so many darling hats,
dresses, jeans, swim suits,
ballet costumes, skiing, ice
skating, horseback riding,
formals, and of course
wedding attire, what's
not to love about that? In
1955, "Debbie," a 10-½-inch
plastic doll, was introduced.
