This stunning array of French bisque-head bebés, on wood and composition bodies with straight wrists, dates from the early 1880s. Marked "EJ" on back of their heads, they were created by Emile Jumeau. Throughout, we find a fascinating variety of looks from this one mold. The eye-cuts and painting techniques were done by hand, causing, in part, a wide variety of looks. Private Collection. 42 SUMMER 2018
