The two 16-½-inch dolls by Jumeau shown above, each marked "E7J," are a study in contrasts. The brown-eyed doll on the right has much rounder eye cuts, with the brows painted higher above the top edges of the eye openings. Both her eyebrows and lashes are painted more heavily than those of the blue-eyed "E7J" doll on the left. Are they perhaps foreshadowing the generally more heavily-painted features of the later-produced "Tete Jumeaux?" Private Collection. Shown here is a close-up of the pair of 20-inch Jumeau dolls shown above, marked "E9J." On the left, the browneyed doll's eye cuts are slightly larger. The mauve eye shadow is applied more liberally than on her sister. The doll on the right with blue eyes has a "peaches and cream" complexion. Her eyebrows are a combination of dark blonde feathered paint strokes and a single stroke of mauve. Private Collection. DOLL NEWS * UFDC.ORG 45http://www.UFDC.ORG
