The adorable little 5-¾-inch bisque-headed doll on the right is marked "Halbig/K*R." Her apparently original costume matches the 9-inch "Just Me" on theleft that came in a trunk set identical to one shown in a 1930s Vogue catalog photograph. Surely, the K*R doll could have been dressed and sold by Vogue. Both dresses have Vogue's signature hook and eye fasteners. Author's Collection. Who can resist an all-bisque "Bye-Lo Baby" doll? Like their better-known family members with bisque heads and cloth bodies, they were produced in Germany for George Borgfeldt in New York. These half-dozen babies range in size from 3-¾-inches tall to about 6-inches tall. The largest is marked "16/18" on the head and "Copr. by/Grace S Putnam/Germany" on her back. The smallest is marked "4/70" on the head and "4-70" on her back, in addition to the afore-mentioned markings and seems to be a hard-to-find size. All these examples feature glass sleep eyes. Some have swivel necks, and some do not, the same being said for wigs vs. painted hair. Except for one, all have molded and painted slippers, in pink or blue. The 5-inch doll with molded bare feet (center, front) is wearing what appears to be her original ensemble and bears a wrist tag that reads: "Wee 'Little Sister/Has come to see you/With the prettiest clothes/That come on and off too." Her original mohair wig is darker brown in comparison to the medium brown and light blonde wigs on her sisters. Author's Collection. 48 SUMMER 2018
