Wooden Julie Ann dolls stand before two "bakelite" Julie Ann dolls in their original boxes. This handcrafted Julie Ann doll was produced by the author for the Northshore Doll Club in 1999 as luncheon souvenir, with special permission from the Mayer family. Julie Ann filled a need for the family of her original creators so many years ago. She saved the family home during the Depression and provided joy to any child that received one such doll in the 1930s. The story behind Julie Ann, the "Hand-Painted Doll, Shreve Island Plantation, Shreveport, Louisiana" has afforded a brief glimpse into a special wood doll's origin and history. Julie Ann presented a challenge for this author and sparked an interest in meeting other collectors who have found the original dolls. "Eliza Lou" was another Julie Ann souvenir doll created by the author for the Minnesota Jamboree Council Luncheon. The box, cape and precious little dog were provided by the Minnesota Jamboree Council. DOLL NEWS * UFDC.ORG 83http://www.UFDC.ORG
