Mary Hoyer Fashion Shows By Jane Foster The embroidered trim on "Miss Hawaii's" beautiful costume is a row of plumeria blossoms and the skirt spreads into more than a full circle. Courtesy of Susan Piefer. 120 SUMMER 2020 M uch has been written about the very creative Mary Hoyer who has given us a multitude of doll fashions and accessories. However, not quite as much has been shared about her fashion shows-one of these presentations being the "Miss America Pageant" taking place in the decade of the1950s. At that time she designed 52 exquisite gowns for 14-inch hard plastic Mary Hoyer dolls representing each state in the United States including Alaska and Hawaii as well as the District of Columbia and Canada. Mrs. Hoyer gave several doll fashion shows in the eastern Pennsylvania area for church affairs, service associations, benefit groups and charitable organizations.
