Foundation Board of Directors

In Summary
1. Through the Awards Program, the AAOF has
invested a total of $11.5 million in the future of
orthodontics, primarily in support of junior
faculty; with the amount budgeted for 2018,
the new total will be $12.3 million. Of the 30
projects funded in 2017, nine were from PCSO.
The proposal deadline for the 2018 Awards
Program was December 1, 2017.
2. Named Award: An announcement of the
latest Named Award (Robert James Bray Biomedical Research Award) is included as well
as information on how to establish a Named
Award.
3. The Board of Directors: The AAOF has new
Terms of Service for all directors and a new
procedure to determine constituent
representation.
New Foundation Directors are:
▪ DeWayne McCamish (SAO / TN), serving
as acting secretary-treasurer
▪ Chris Puco of Align Technology, serving
as the new public director
4. The Foundation Search Committee, working
in concert with the AAO Search Committee,
will provide the board with a status report
on its efforts to find a new AAOF Executive
Vice-President.
5. All AAO members are asked to consider
remembering the AAO Foundation in your
estate plans. Please complete the Keystone
Society response form.
2017 Awards Program
For the 2017 Awards Program, the Board approved
a total of $676,774 in funding for the following
projects:
 Nine (9) Biomedical Research Awards
 Twelve (12) Orthodontic Faculty Development
Fellowship Awards
 One (1) Postdoctoral Fellowship Award
 Eight (8) Research Aid Awards
 A total of 447 Research and Fellowship Awards

Please visit the AAOF website for an update on
the Craniofacial Growth Legacy Collection Project,
the purpose of which is not only to preserve a
representative sample of these irreplaceable
materials, but also to make them available for
viewing and further investigation by clinicians,
craniofacial investigators, students of human
growth, and interested members of the public.
To date on the website, there are 16,000 total
images of 752 subjects from nine participating
collections.

2018 AAOF Awards Program
For the 2018 Awards Program, there were two
calls for proposals: 1) Barriers / Access to Care and
2) Business / Practice of Orthodontics. Funding is
