Alberta
The 2017 Alberta Society of Orthodontists (ASO) meeting took place
in the lovely Rimrock Hotel in
Banff on April 7 and 8, with the
annual general meeting (AGM) held on the
8th. The topic of discussion for this year was
"Accelerated Orthodontics and Myofunctional
Orthodontics." The guest speakers for this session
were Drs. Sonia Pallek, Thomas Shipley, German
Ramirez-Yanez, Tim Shaughnessy, and Todd Dickerson. In addition, we invited Dr. Kam Olfert to
attend and deliver a message on behalf of PCSO.
Dr. Olfert attended the general session as well as
the ASO business meeting and AGM. Some of the
main topics of discussion within the ASO are:
 A new PCSO Component Director was elected
(I finished my term as of this year's PCSO
Annual Session in Reno). It is my pleasure to
introduce Dr. Ryan Edwards as the new
Alberta representative.
 Kam Olfert and I delivered a PCSO PowerPoint
presentation to roughly 20 members at the
AGM and answered questions related to
PCSO. We took the opportunity to encourage
all members to renew their membership and
promoted attendance at the upcoming
Annual Session in Reno.
 We discussed the fact that many orthodontists in our area still engage in self-promotion,
which has caused controversy within our constituency. There was some discussion on the
needs and strategy for approaching this topic.
 We discussed taxation changes and the
impact they will have on professional corporations and small business in Alberta.
The 2018 ASO Annual Meeting will take place in
April, again at the Rimrock Resort Hotel in Banff.

Arizona
The Arizona State Orthodontic
Association (ASOA) held its Annual
Session on Monday, December 4,
in Phoenix. The session featured
Dr. Elliott Moskowitz's presentations entitled
"Growth and Age: Discovery and Application" and
"The Development of Expert Skills in Dentistry."

Our state association would also like to recognize
the following members for their recent appointments and/or continuing terms on AAO councils
and related boards: Dr. Courtney Dunn, AAO
Council on Communications; Dr. Michael Feinberg, AAOPAC Board of Directors; Dr. Jae Park, ABO
Director; Dr. Bruce Goldstein, CDABO Secretary.
Our Arizona component is proud of our leadership's local, regional, and national efforts.

British Columbia
The British Columbia Society of
Orthodontists (BCSO) continues to
focus on public awareness of our
specialty. The BCSO Consumer
Awareness Campaign (CAP) is now in its fourth
year. The program currently involves a variety of
media and has resulted in multiple local content
placements over the last six months (TV, online,
newspapers, and magazines). Most of this
work has been facilitated by our PR firm, Utahbased The Summit Group (TSG). TSG has been
actively working with BCSO members to get the
message out.
The BCSO recently completed a full website
redesign and optimization. This work was completed by Centrifuge Media Group of Vancouver.
The most important aspect of the new site is the
enhanced member search. BCSO members can
provide more detailed information about their
practice, including photos, video, and social
