What first interested you in orthodontics?
My first hands-on experience with orthodontics
came through a close family friend and mentor
orthodontist from Seattle. When I visited his
office each summer, he showed me that being an
orthodontist is truly a dream job. It combines art,
science, teaching, problem solving, community
involvement, running an excellent business, and
more, all while providing an incredible and
rewarding service to others. Orthodontics can do
more than just improve facial balance, oral
health, and function; it can improve the complete
social well-being of an individual. People with
attractive smiles have better self-esteem, are perceived as more intelligent, and often have better
paying jobs. In my short time in orthodontics, I
have really enjoyed not only seeing, but being a
part of that change in others.

Tell me about your orthodontic residency
program.
Roseman University of Health Sciences, College
of Dental Medicine, Advanced Education in
Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics and
Master of Business Administration (AEODO/MBA)
is an integrated 35-month program that offers a
certificate and MBA degree in one course of
study. Through Roseman University's unique
block curriculum, 30 residents (10 each year) and
three interns learn to provide excellent patient
care, a wide variety of treatment philosophies
and techniques, and the ins and outs of running
a successful practice. We are required to produce
a graduate-level research project and a working
business plan upon graduation. Residents also
serve on the Nevada Department of Human
Services/Nevada Early Intervention Services
Team, working with other healthcare professionals to provide treatment to patients with craniofacial deformities and birth defects. Finally, the
college promotes the Lifelong Colleague Philosophy and Honor Code, which allows residents to
thrive in an environment of trust, mutual respect,
and integrity.
What are some of the highlights of your
residency?
Throughout residency, I have worked very hard to
become a caring and proficient clinician. However, I feel that the true challenge lies in adapting
to the constantly changing business environment and in improving efficiency while not compromising patient care. The MBA provides us with
a sound business foundation in marketing,
finance, accounting, processes, and business law,
and is what initially attracted me to the program.
Because the University is situated just outside
the heart of Las Vegas, we have countless leisure
and entertainment activities from mountains to
clubs only minutes away, but we also have the
opportunity to attend several of the numerous
CE courses that come through here. The University
