President's Message

In it for the Long Haul
Dr. Kamrin Olfert
PCSO President 2017-2018

I am deeply honored and humbled to serve as
your president for the 2017-2018 year. My participation in PCSO began quietly in 2010, when I
served as the director for Saskatchewan. My initial four years as a director were filled with committee assignments and responsibilities. Serving
on the original Critical Issues Task Force #1 was a
highlight, and solid friendships were forged during that time. After a year's sabbatical, I was
asked to begin the officer track. My roles and
responsibilities have continually grown; this year
I take the helm as president. It has been very
enjoyable to work with individuals who love the
profession as much as I do.
Special Thanks
As I assume the PCSO presidency, I look forward
to leading an active, vibrant association that
dates back more than 100 years. This association
was built by the many leaders who came before
me, including past boards and presidents. As I
look back on the accomplishments of the last
year, I need to thank two giants within PCSO.
First, Dr. Paul Kasrovi, who expertly led PCSO
through one of the busiest years that I can
remember. In taking on his leadership role alongside a new managing executive director, Paul
worked tirelessly to maintain the culture of innovation and leadership that is PCSO. True to form,
the recent Annual Session in Reno was full of
continuing education and social events that were
an absolute blast. Thanks to Paul and his planning committee for a fantastic meeting. The bar
has been set high for 2018!
Secondly, I must thank Callie Castro, PCSO's executive director. I had the pleasure of interviewing
Callie in the summer of 2016, and I knew immediately that she was a perfect fit for our organization. PCSO is incredibly lucky to find someone as
talented, passionate, and experienced as Callie. I
feel confident in the future of PCSO as Callie continues her management role. With Callie and her
management staff at AAOSI, we can be assured
the operations are in good hands.

The Year Ahead
I am very much looking forward to the year
ahead. I plan to work diligently to maintain the
momentum and success of Dr. Kasrovi's presidential year. The initiatives we will soon undertake
are centered on creating value and a better experience for our members. We plan to thoroughly
review the results of recent member focus
groups to ensure that we are focusing our attention on issues that matter to you.
The board recently approved an ad hoc committee to create a leadership development program
for the membership at large. We will launch a
portion of this concept at our Ad Interim Board
Meeting in spring 2018, where we will provide
media training for attendees. The ad hoc committee, chaired by Dr. John Trotter, will develop a
detailed curriculum. I cannot wait to roll out this
program to PCSO members.
At the Ad Interim Board Meeting, PCSO will also
undertake an important strategic planning
process that will guide the long-term direction of
our association. This strategy will allow us to look
beyond the horizon, focusing on the future, while
still managing to address current issues that
matter to PCSO orthodontists. Two of these critical issues continue from last year, with emphasis
on review of our face-to-face educational offerings and recruitment and training of orthodontic
team members. We also have formed a committee focused on the needs of women orthodontists.
Technology remains a focus for the coming year
as well. We will be working to enhance our social
media presence, create a user-friendly website,
and develop a more current and relevant mobile
app. PCSO officers, directors, and committee
members will be hard at work for all of you.
