pcso business ABo rePort UPDATE ON THE AMERICAN BOARD OF ORTHODONTICS C ongratulations to the following PCSO orthodontists, who became certified or recertified at the February exanimation in Saint Louis, MO: Douglas Ainslie, Emanuel Alexandroni, Abir Balghonaim, Joseph Bordeaux, Peter Brenn, D. Luke Cain, Denise Doan, Marie Doulaveralis, Geoffrey Greenlee, Krista Hirasuna, Sean Holliday, Andrew Kouvaris, Marc Larson, Hao-Fu Lee, David Li, Matthew Linaker, Charles Low, Matthew MacGinnis, Lauren Manfred, Daniel Phillips, Andrew Schmidt, Yoshi Shen, Nicole Sun, You Chen Tao and Mark Wong. Dr. Geoff Greenlee, Clinic Director at the University of Washington, related his experience with the Clinical Examination: “I did find the process to be a useful self-study and worthwhile overall. I am very excited and grateful to be an ABO Diplomate! Now that I know the process, I will be more helpful in assisting our residents to prepare for the exam. I would like to incorporate more of what the ABO is looking for in a finished case earlier in the UW curriculum. I plan to assemble some example slides to add to my “Intro to Clinic” talk for our new residents. It will be useful to paint the picture of what good treatment looks 8 like earlier on, to instill this as a goal when residents start their very first cases.” The ABO applauds the residents attending programs within the PCSO constituent for taking the ABO Written Examination the week of April 16 – 19 at the Pearson Vue Testing Centers. The ABO urges orthodontic residents to complete the board certification process by taking the Initial Certification Examination (ICE). The ABO encourages orthodontic residents to register for the ICE before they take the ABO Written Examination, as Clinical Examination sessions fill quickly. Orthodontic residents must first register for the Written Examination before they can register for the ICE. Residents must also register for a Clinical Examination session that occurs after their graduation date. Registration is now open for the November 2013 Clinical Examination. Registration for the February 2014 examination will open on May 15. Space is limited at all exam sessions, and exams may close prior to the registration deadline. The American Board of Orthodontics announces it will accept universal digital formats for pretreatment and interim models. In order to provide access to board certification for all orthodontists who use digital formats for orthodontic models, the ABO found it necessary to provide a pathway for accepting measurable digital formats in a non-proprietary manner. For clinical examinations conducted after January 2014, digital pretreatment and allowable interim models will be accepted only in universal file formats (PLY, STL, or OBJ) that are constructed according to ABO standards and specifications. Please review the newly released ABO Digital Model Requirements on the ABO website for submitting digital models. The ABO offers a new patientinformation brochure, titled “Your Smile is in Good Hands,” for use in Diplomates’ offices. This brochure is available on the ABO website. The ABO now has a Facebook page and a Twitter account, @ ABOrthodontics. The ABO will post news and examination information on these social media sites. Stay informed by following the ABO online.
