PCSO Member News ABO Recognizes Two PCSO Members Dr. David L. Turpin The American Board of Orthodontics awards the Albert H. Ketcham Memorial Award to Dr. David L. Turpin The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) awarded the Albert H. Ketcham Memorial Award, its highest honor, to PCSO member Dr. David L. Turpin of Federal Way, WA, on May 17, at the Excellence in Orthodontics Awards Ceremony, which was held in conjunction with the 2015 Annual Session of the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) in San Francisco, CA. The ABO created this award in 1936 to commemorate the achievements of Dr. Albert H. Ketcham, one of the pioneers in the specialty of orthodontics. The ABO awards this honor annually to an individual who, in the judgment of the award committee, has made a notable contribution to the science and art of orthodontics. Dr. John Grubb "Dr. David Turpin has made a significant contribution to orthodontics by the many varied areas he has served," said Dr. Paul Castelein, the 2014-15 ABO president. "He has been a clinician, a researcher, an author, a teacher, and an editor of the two major orthodontic journals. Dr. Turpin is also working very hard for the 8th International Orthodontic Congress in September 2015 in London." "It is with great humility that I receive the 2015 Ketcham Award. We may not be telling them loudly enough yet, but I have to admit that it's easier to fill an editorial page with words than it's been for ABO directors to improve treatment outcomes across the world. We all owe them so much."  ABO awards the Earl E. and Wilma S. Shepard Distinguished Service Award to Dr. John E. Grubb The ABO awarded PCSO member Dr. John E. Grubb of Escondido, CA, the Earl E. and Wilma S. Shepard Distinguished Service Award on May 16 at the annual luncheon of the College of Diplomates of the ABO, which was held in conjunction with the 2015 AAO Annual Session. The Earl E. and Wilma S. Shepard Distinguished Service Award was established to recognize an individual for outstanding dedication and advancement of the ideals and mission of the ABO. Dr. Grubb is an ABO diplomate, as well as a past director and past president of the ABO. He continues to serve the ABO as an examiner for the ABO Clinical Examination and as a technology consultant. "Dr. John Grubb exemplifies the very best in service above self," said Dr. Larry Tadlock, an ABO director. "His tireless commitment and expertise in orthodontic technology has aided the ABO in incorporating the most advanced technology available. Dr. Grubb was instrumental in the development of the ABO's electronic case submission in which candidates can submit cases electronically rather than bringing physical records to the ABO Clinical Examination. He has served on the ADA Standards Committee on Dental Informatics (SCDI) for many years as a representative of the ABO. His work at SCDI has established standards in dentistry for digital records, including models, photographs and radiographs. In addition, Dr. Grubb has helped the ABO establish electronic grading of the Discrepancy Index, and he is currently working on electronic grading of final digital study casts. The ABO is truly grateful for all of his contributions."
