Abstract
This case report presents the correction of a constricted maxilla, 2 mm anterior open bite, and
congenitally missing permanent lateral incisors
in a 14-year, nine-month-old Persian male.
complaint: "I'd like to get braces to improve my
appearance." The patient had an expansion
device about two years prior to this first visit, but
it did not succeed, resulting only in the flaring
out of the teeth. Medical history was noncontributory.
Introduction
This report demonstrates the treatment of a case
that shows skeletal problems in the transverse,
vertical, and sagittal directions, as well as congenitally missing laterals. The unique condition
of the patient makes both surgical and non-surgical approaches viable. Successful management
of the case using different mechanics shows a
favorable result in both esthetics and function.
The patient presented a mild Class II skeletal relationship with a slightly retrognathic mandible,
resulting in a convex profile. The patient showed
a dolichofacial pattern and a slightly increased
lower anterior facial height. He also had a tendency to keep his lips apart, although he had no
difficulty with nasal breathing. No tongue habit
was noticed or reported by the patient.
Extraoral and Intraoral Findings
