How to Make an Active Retainer
Passive
Abstract
Finger springs are helpful in minor tooth movements and creating small corrections. But after
the correction is made, finger springs provide
little strength to keep the tooth in the corrected
position. A simple chairside reline procedure is
demonstrated to help maintain the tooth in the
new position, without having to make a new
retainer.
First, we thank Dr. Earl Johnson for teaching this
reline method to us. We find it very useful technique to us in our practices. After a finger-spring
has done its job, it can become a nuisance. Using
this step-by-step technique, we can stabilize
the position of the corrected tooth without the
finger-spring and fill the acrylic void lingual to
the corrected tooth.
