Alberta
The Alberta Society of Orthodontists (ASO) had a very successful
annual meeting in Banff on April 7
and 8, 2017. The main theme of the
session was "accelerated orthodontics," with a
secondary theme of "myofunctional orthodontics." The meeting was well attended and the
feedback from attendees, vendors, and speakers
was very positive. The executive of the ASO would
like to thank Dr. Lee-Knight for his help as liaison
between the ASO and the Canadian Association
of Orthodontists (CAO). Thanks also to Dr. Shawn
Russett for his exceptional service as PCSO
representative and we are welcoming Dr. Ryan
Edwards as the incoming ASO representative to
the PCSO. The ASO would also like to thank Dr.
Kam Olfert, the PCSO president-elect, for his presentation to, and support of, the ASO. Dr. Sunny
Leong gave a presentation on the Smiles 4 Life
program in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta
that provides orthodontic treatment to those in
need who cannot afford treatment. The issues
that the ASO are continuing to deal with are
breaches of the provincial ethics by-laws by dental colleagues regarding advertising and marketing, the development of consumer awareness
programs, and the strengthening of relationships
with related orthodontic associations. The ASO
has hired an administrative assistant to help
with the day-to-day operations of the society. We
are pleased to have Dr. Andrew Chen join the
executive of the ASO for the coming year as secretary/treasurer. The 2018 annual session of the
ASO will be in Banff on April 6 and 7, 2018.

Arizona
It is an honor to announce that
during the House of Delegates
Meeting at the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) Annual
Session, 92 delegates unanimously approved Dr.
Jae Hyun Park as the new American Board of
Orthodontics (ABO) Director representing PCSO.
Dr. Park is the immediate past president of the
Arizona State Orthodontic Association, and current professor and program director of the Postgraduate Orthodontics Program at the Arizona
School of Dentistry & Oral Health (ASDOH-POP).
Since 2008, while working as a full-time faculty
member, he has published more than 150 scientific and clinical articles in peer-reviewed orthodontic and dental journals including two cover
pages in the American Journal of Orthodontics
and Dentofacial Orthopedics, two books, and 13
book chapters. He is currently editor-in-chief of
the PCSO Bulletin and an active member of the
Northern California Edward H. Angle Society of
Orthodontists.

British Columbia
The most significant change for
the British Columbia Society of
Orthodontists (BCSO) has been
working with a public relations
firm, The Summit Group (TSG), using the AAO
Consumer Awareness Program (CAP) matching
funds. The Summit Group has helped set up communication channels within the BCSO so its
members can interact and to educate the membership about what the BCSO is doing with the
AAO CAP matching funds. Members can also
learn how they can utilize and amplify the AAO
CAP message through their social media channels. The Summit Group has also helped set up
avenues to educate the public through earned
media. The first BCSO press release in late April
