annual meeting, which is tentatively scheduled
for March 2018. We encourage our members to
update their email addresses on the AAO database so they can continue to receive information
from us about important issues and meetings.

Oregon
The Oregon State Society of
Orthodontists (OSSO) held its
annual general membership
meeting on December 2, 2016.
The meeting included Dr. Erik Richmond's presentation on "Medical Emergencies in the Dental
Office," which fulfilled the Oregon state dental
licensure requirement. Oregon Health Sciences
University (OHSU) third-year residents presented
excellent master's research presentations on
wear properties of thermoplastic retainer materials, tooth transpositions, accuracy of direct vs.
indirect bonding, and weight gain in cleft lip and
palate patients with and without nasoalveolar
molding. Thank you and congratulations to Drs.
Hani Ahdab, Brent Erickson, Claire Kuo, and Shannon Woods! Our next general meeting is tentatively scheduled for December 1, 2017, and will
feature Dr. Karla Kent speaking on "Infection
Control." More information is always available
at our website.
The annual Hixon lecture, sponsored by the
OHSU Orthodontics Alumni Association (OOAA),
was held in April and featured Dr. Larry Tadlock,
who gave an excellent presentation on topics
ranging from the current state of the profession
to new perspectives on the effect of growth and
extraction vs. non-extraction treatment on the
face. For the past couple of years, the OSSO and
OOAA have held meetings separately to increase
the opportunities for participation and camaraderie and to provide additional CE options,
including meeting state licensure requirements.

This formula seems to be working, and our plan
is to continue with it. We encourage all orthodontists in the state to join us for both meetings.
Current issues OSSO leadership are working on
include the potential of Smile Direct Club coming
to Oregon, possible changes to EFODA requirements, and increasing participation of recent
graduates and relocated orthodontists in our
organization. We welcome your comments on
these or other topics of concern. We are also looking for a member to fill a vacancy on the board.
The time commitment is very manageable and
you would be doing a huge service to organized
orthodontics in our state. Please contact one of
the current officers through the website if you
are interested.

Saskatchewan
The Saskatchewan Society of
Orthodontists had its annual
meeting January 20, 2017, at
the Holiday Inn in Saskatoon,
Saskatchewan. In conjunction with the meeting,
the Society had its sixth annual day of continuing
education with over 67 orthodontists and team
members attending. Dentsply GAC was the
generous sponsor of the event, and Dr. Antonio
Secchi gave a presentation to the staff and
doctors titled "Leveraging Clinical Advancements
in Treatment Mechanics," discussing the Complete
Clinical Orthodontics (CCO) system. Recognition
needs to be given to Dr. Mike Wagner for organizing the event and speaker. Thanks for your help!
The next annual meeting is in winter of 2017/18
in Saskatoon and we hope to have a great attendance again.
