The Washington State Society of
Orthodontists (WSSO) would like
to recognize and congratulate
two WSSO members who will
be serving and representing the PCSO on the
national level: Dr. Rodney Dubois on the Council
on Orthodontic Health Care and Dr. Jackie Bunce
on the Council on Membership, Ethics and Judicial Concerns at the AAO. We would also like to
recognize our WSSO PCSO board member, Dr. Tom
Merrill, who chaired the Critical Issues Evaluation
(CIE) Ad Hoc Committee at the PCSO.
At the previous WSSO annual meeting, which
was held on February 17, 2017, the proposed bylaw
changes were voted on and approved at the business lunch. The main changes to the bylaws had
to do with semantics, grammar, and separating
the previous position of secretary-treasurer in
order to create two independent positions: the
secretary and treasurer. The treasurer is now a
three-year position. This will allow for greater
continuity in regards to maintaining finances,
bank accounts, and ultimately to facilitate a more
successful transition to the newly elected treasurer. The secretary and treasurer will remain as
part of the executive board and will therefore
be in line for ascension to the presidency of
the board.
The WSSO board leadership is currently comprised of: Dr. Blake Davis, President; Dr. Tori
Matthys, President Elect, Dr. Christopher Riolo,
Treasurer; Dr. Mohammad Mainayar, Secretary; Dr.
Tom Merrill, PCSO Director; Dr. Roozbeh Khosravi,
Communications Division; Dr. Patra Alatsis, Membership Division; Dr. Aaron Molen, Orthodontic
Practices Division; Dr. Wei Tian, Legislative Division; Dr. Bryan Williams, Peer Review Chair, Dr.
Geoff Greenlee, Board Member at Large; and Sally
Gee, Administrator.

The Washington State Dental Quality Assurance
Commission (DQAC) has been working over the
past year to update the Washington Administrative Code (WAC), specifically WAC 246-817-520, in
regards to delegation of duties and responsibilities for registered dental assistants (DA) and
Expanded Functional Dental Assistants (EFDA).
The WSSO, in conjunction with many WSSO
members, took this opportunity to modify, guide,
and provide constructive feedback to DQAC over
several sessions and meetings at the state capitol
in Olympia, to guarantee that the interests and
the practice of orthodontics would not be negatively impacted. WSSO members and board
members worked tirelessly to introduce language necessary to maintain, preserve, and also
benefit the practice of orthodontics in the state
of Washington, which ultimately will improve the
treatment and welfare of our patients.
For the upcoming PCSO Annual Meeting in Reno
October 12-15, 2018 the WSSO will be subsidizing
the breakfast for active WSSO members; it will
only cost $15.
We would also like to announce and remind
members that the WSSO Annual Meeting will be
held on Friday, February 2, 2018, at the beautiful
Meydenbauer Convention Center in Bellevue, WA.
Meeting topics and speakers will be announced
soon.
