identify and locate the position of an impacted
canine. In situations where interceptive treatment is not a viable option, it is important for
orthodontists to bring the impacted canines
down into occlusion.2 Regardless of the surgical
technique used, it is recommended that enough
space be created in the arch to accommodate
impacted canines before surgical exposure. Various treatments, both surgical and orthodontic,
are available to uncover impacted maxillary
canines. While the best possible treatment is
prevention, this may not always be an option,
so it is important for clinicians to be cautious and
pay close attention to potential signs and symptoms of impaction in order to provide the best
possible care for their patients.
