Alberta
Plans are underway for the next
Alberta Society of Orthodontists
(ASO) meeting in 2018. We will
have exceptional speakers about
using different techniques and philosophies for
Phase I treatment. Dr. Donna Galante will speak
on Invisalign, Drs. Tim Auger and Budi Kusnoto
on the Wilson appliance, Dr. Derek Mahony on
Myofunctional Therapy and Dr. Moe Razavi on
Practice Business Improvement.
The 2018 session will be the last time the meeting will be held in the RimRock Hotel. In 2019,
ASO sessions will be held at the Fairmont, Banff
Springs.

Arizona
The Arizona State Orthodontic
Association will hold its Annual
Session on Monday, December 4,
2017, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. This
year's session, which will offer 7 CE credits, will
be held at the Orange Tree Golf Club in Phoenix.
Our guest speaker will be Dr. Elliott Moskowitz, a
recognized clinician, educator, author, and editor
practicing in New York City. Topics are to be determined; they will be posted online as they are
finalized. Brochures and registration forms will
be mailed to all Arizona PCSO members shortly.

British Columbia
The British Columbia Society
of Orthodontists (BCSO) had
its Annual General Meeting on
June 9, 2017, at the University of
British Columbia golf course. This event consists
of a general meeting and short CE course in the
morning, followed by lunch and a round of golf
in the afternoon; it is always well attended. Dr.
Lesley Williams presented a PCSO update and
encouraged UBC residents to attend the PCSO
Annual Session and to participate in the activities of their society after their graduation.
The BCSO has continued its local Consumer
Awareness Program (CAP) campaign with Centrifuge Media, which has redesigned our website
in order to appeal to the public. The site now
provides more information, an improved search
engine for finding local orthodontists, and better
integration with social media, all intended to
increase traffic to the site. The new site also provides an area for member pages to link to their
own practice sites, and an area for direct member
communication through forums. We also started
using the new URL www.findanortho.ca to help
the public find the BCSO member directory.
For a second year, the BCSO is sponsoring the
Canucks Junior Golf Week with the PGA of BC.
This program teaches young athletes the importance of learning motor skills through participation in various sports. The event is open to kids
ages 5 to 18, and events are held at dozens of
locales around the province.
In conjunction with The Summit Group (TSG),
we created a press release warning the public
of the dangers of DIY orthodontics. The press
release made over 36,000 impressions, which
spurred the British Columbia Dental Association
and BCSO to put together a tip sheet on the
same theme. We have also begun media training
for members who are interested in speaking on
behalf of the BCSO on radio or TV to help get
across a concise and uniform message.
