PCSO Business

In addition, the CAO has endorsed the Smiles
Change Lives (SCL) program, which encourages
CAO members to provide orthodontic care for
those in need. To date, over 100 CAO members
have volunteered to participate as SCL providers,
and over 340 cases are currently in orthodontic
treatment. There is an urgent need for volunteer
orthodontists who are willing to treat cases in
the Sacramento and Bakersfield areas. Please see

Orthodontic Assistant Permit (OAP) Program
CAO continues to offer our exclusive OAP
program to orthodontists interested in training
staff members. In addition, the CAO now offers
didactic training modules via our website as a
companion to the current CAO training course.
The use of this multimedia technology will allow
team members access to the training curriculum
24/7, and it will provide consistent instruction
to the whole team, while allowing them to learn
at their own pace - what a great service! The
program continues to be offered to additional
group/corporate practices with multiple locations and an orthodontist to oversee training at
each location. It is also available to orthodontists
who wish to provide a service to colleagues by
training staff members who are not his/her own
employees.
Orthodontic Peer Review Calibration
CAO will once again sponsor an annual orthodontic Peer Review calibration workshop for
members wishing to serve on review panels
when complaints arise regarding orthodontic
colleagues. These workshops afford orthodontists
who experience dental board complaints the
privilege of being reviewed by peers rather than
general dentists who are unfamiliar with standard orthodontic practices. The next session will
be held on Friday, November 3, 2017, at the Santa
Clara County Dental Society in San Jose. Contact

Nevada
We are excited to announce
the date and venue of the 2018
Nevada State Orthodontic Society
meeting, which will be held Friday,
March 2, 2018, at the Roseman Medical Auditorium in Las Vegas. Please mark your calendars
for this CE event. Nevada has recently changed
prerequisites for authorization of orthodontic
services covered by Medicaid as of June 29, 2017.

Oregon
The Oregon State Society of
Orthodontists is planning its next
general meeting for December 1,
2017. It will feature Dr. Karla Kent
speaking on infection control and will fulfill the
requirement for state license renewal. Following
Dr. Kent's presentation, we will again be hearing
research presentations from graduating OHSU
residents. These talks will cover a wide range of
topics and should be interesting. In an effort to
reach out to members, especially new ones, we
are hoping to host a reception the night before
the meeting. More information will be available
at our website, www.ossortho.org.
We are still looking for members to join our
board! The time commitment is very manageable, and you would be doing a huge service
to organized orthodontics in our state. Please
