COA meeting and members

With the goal of sharing gained knowledge and
experience with the next generation of orthodontists and to contribute to the orthodontic
field, Dr. Ahn chose to pursue a full-time role in
academia. Her career as full-time faculty began
in 2014 at Roseman University, where residents
are offered state-of-the-art technologies along
with a concurrent MBA program. Comparatively
young, Roseman University has an innovative and
creative atmosphere with challenging traditional
educational concepts and models. The Six-Point
Mastery Learning Model implemented at Roseman includes block curriculum, early experiential
learning, assessment learning, active and collaborative learning, competency-based education,
and classroom as teacher. Thinking out of the box
and constructive experimental trials based on
evidence are commonly practiced by Dr. Ahn and
the Roseman Clinic. Currently, Dr. Ahn is serving
at the Center for Innovation in Healthcare Education (CIHE) at Roseman University to study,
develop, and disseminate the Six-Point Mastery
Learning Model.
Research Focus on 3-D CBCT and Digital
Technologies
Dr. Ahn also mentors residents on research, conducts didactic courses on cephalometrics and
basic biomedical sciences, supervises residents'

patient treatment in clinic, and helps residents
to prepare for the ABO clinical exam. Dr. Ahn's
research interests are primarily focused on 3-D
printers and CBCT, as she envisions their roles
will become more important. InVivo software
(version 5.3; Anatomage, San Jose, CA), Dolphin
Imaging software (version 11.9; Dolphin Imaging
& Management Solutions, Chatsworth, CA), and
Checkpoint software (Stratovan, Davis, CA) are
the main programs used at Roseman. Geometric
morphometric analysis on condyles following
orthodontic treatment, and comparison of accuracy of 3-D printed casts acquired with various
methods are some of her current research topics.
Dr. Ahn is currently a Diplomate of the American
Board of Orthodontics (ABO). Two of her cases
were selected for excellence in finishing and
treatment planning by the board; these were
displayed at the 2014 AAO Annual Session in
New Orleans. At Roseman, her preparatory
courses for the ABO clinical exam encouraged
residents to pursue board certification. A majority of the residents and recent Roseman grads
prepare for the board clinical exam, and many
have already passed the exam or banked cases.
Her class entitled Introduction to Finishing Cases
to Board Standards upgraded the standard at the
Roseman University clinic.
A few years ago, Dr. Ahn started the Christian
Orthodontic Association (COA). Through fellowship and regular meetings, members encourage
and support one another. Dr. Ahn is looking forward to contributing to this orthodontic society
as an educator and researcher, and mentoring
residents for orthodontic skills and knowledge as
well as life experience. She works intimately with
local community groups to spread orthodontic
awareness in the community.
