Executive Director's Message

Executive Update

Fall is upon us. I, for one, am thrilled. I love this
time of year: the cooler temperatures and changing colors. Another reason to be excited: the
PCSO Annual Session. Although this will not be
my first meeting with all of you, it will certainly
be less of a whirlwind for me this time around.
The Annual Session will always be a special experience for me, as it signals another year spent
serving the dedicated orthodontists of PCSO.
I hope that you are planning to join us in RenoTahoe from October 12-15. Under the leadership
of Drs. Paul Kasrovi and Ron Wolk, the planning
committee has worked diligently throughout the
year to plan an exceptional doctor and staff
program as well as amazing social events for all.
The Reno-Tahoe area has much to offer PCSO
members - from the urban feel of Reno to the
breathtaking scenery of nearby Tahoe. Don't miss
the Casino Royale Welcome Party on Friday night,
featuring casino games, a photo booth, music,
dancing, and more. Come in your James Bond-
themed costumes. There will be prizes awarded
for the best-dressed team. I look forward to seeing many familiar faces and meeting many new
people as well. It's not too late to register yourself and your team for the Annual Session.
Your PCSO and volunteers have not slowed down
this year. Here are a few highlights.

 The Communications Committee continues
to investigate the best way to move forward
with enhancements to the PCSO website and
mobile app.
 The Member Needs Assessment Committee
has conducted focus groups to better understand the needs of PCSO members.
 The Bylaws Committee has thoroughly
reviewed the PCSO Bylaws and Policy & Procedures Manual to ensure that our governance
documents are accurate and up-to-date with
current association practices.
 The board will interview candidates for the
PCSO representative to the AAO Council on
Scientific Affairs during its meeting at the
Annual Session. Phone interviews were held
over the summer to determine the final candidates for face-to-face interviews in Reno-Tahoe.

 Critical Issues Task Force (CITF) #1 is working
to identify potential improvements for the
Annual Session and other face-to-face continuing education opportunities. During the next
few years, they will introduce several new
ideas. They hope to make the PCSO meeting
experience an even more rewarding one.
 CITF #2 is working to identify leadership
development resources for PCSO and component members. Enhancements are already
underway, with the goal of making the board
transition experience smoother for incoming
and outgoing directors of the board. We hope
to also implement a broader scale development opportunity for PCSO members in the
coming years.
 CITF #3 has created a PCSO-specific orthodontic team member career brochure. Each PCSO
member will receive a free sample, and can
also request additional copies or print out
his/her own from an available PDF. Also,
included within this issue of the Bulletin: the
very first article addressing orthodontic staff
team members. (See Carol Eaton's "Orthodontics: A Career of Constant Learning" on page 47.)
 Lastly, the 2018 PCSO Annual Session Planning
Committee conducted its site visit to Monterey, CA, in June. Drs. Bryan Hicks, Kamrin
Olfert, and Paul Kasrovi, as well as Ms. Callie
Castro and Mr. Darrin Crittington visited many
promising venues for PCSO social events, and
began planning locations for educational
programming and committee work as well.
I hope to see many of you in Reno-Tahoe for the
Annual Session. Until then, enjoy the crisp
autumn mornings, warm apple cider, crunchy
fallen leaves underfoot, and perfection of the
changing tree color all around us. 
