clinical procedures, etc. The signed copy goes
into his/her confidential personnel file.

 Introduce the new hire to all team members.
Everyone on the team should know who the
new person is and what their position is in the
office.
 Have one team member buddy up with the
new person. This person will be their go-to for
questions, training, and to make sure they
have the tools they need to be successful.
 Have the team take the new employee to
lunch. This will help them get to know each
other on a personal level.
On the training process:

 Have one person assigned as the clinical trainer
for the new team member. This assignment
can rotate between existing team members
to make sure they are not getting burned out.

 Meet with new hires daily for the first week.
Start with sharing their successes throughout
the day. Then discuss areas for improvement
and any outside reading (training manual)
that should be done.
 Meet weekly through the new hire's training
process. Most frustrations between the
trainer and trainee come from a lack of communication. Again, start with the positive
areas, then move on to their struggles.
 Set expectations for what should be completed in the first day, week, and month. This
will help keep the training on track. Confirm
that the new employee is moving through the
training process in a timely manner.
 Once basic training is completed, make sure
the employee can complete procedures in the
amount of time specified in your schedule. If
he/she cannot meet the goals for procedure
times, have him/her work with an assistant
that is able to meet the goals. 

The Orthodontist's Role in Increasing
Dental Referrals
"Drive By": The doctor and PR make this visit
together. No appointment is needed! The PR
introduces the orthodontist to the team, and
asks if the GP is available. If so, the doctors break
away for a discussion while the PR socializes with
the front office team. The orthodontist has a
planned message such as an invitation, a handout describing the benefits of choosing his/her
practice, or a technology update.
Patient Update: The orthodontist or dentist may
request a patient progress conference. This is an
excellent opportunity to host lunch at your practice and offer a tour.
Practice Events: Be present and engaged at your
practice party, CEU events, or flu shot party. The
PR will assist you in not being monopolized by
one person.

Social: Attend sporting events; engage in sports
activities, cultural events, and brunch with
spouses.
In closing: assign a PR or team, script each GP
encounter, create referral cards and other collateral with a cohesive aesthetic, and engage the
full GP team. Plan your 12-month marketing calendar with accurate referral statistics in mind.
Appeal to your full GP target list with a planned
message for each PR visit and opportunities for
educational and entertaining activities, thus
fulfilling your professional referrals' need for
value and camaraderie. Create an impression of
excellence in all aspects of your practice growth
plan and watch professional relationships and
referrals thrive! 
