Executive Director's Message

Executive Update

PCSO members - I know I have said it before, but
it rings true each time I sit down to write an update for you. The board, delegation, and numerous
committees and task forces have been working
so very hard for you during the past several
months in order to make your membership experience all that it can be.
The board met at the beginning of March in conjunction with the PCSO Leadership Development
Conference (LDC). At the LDC, PCSO directors,
leaders from each of the 11 PCSO component
societies, PCSO committee members, and PCSO
representatives to AAO councils participated in a
half-day media training workshop and a half-day
session to kick-start PCSO's new strategic plan.
The ideas that came out of the strategic planning
brainstorming session were very inspired; they
are being used to help guide the direction of the
PCSO going forward.
The decisions made and tasks accomplished at
the board meeting include:

 New website and mobile app vendors were
selected; PCSO will launch a new and improved
website and mobile app in time for the Annual
Session in October.
 PCSO will work with a social media firm to
create more timely and relevant postings in
order to engage our members.

 An enhanced Leadership Development Program structure was approved; the program
will be available to more PCSO members in
the future. Topics such as media training,
strategic planning, communication, and collaboration may be included in presentations
going forward.

 A new logo policy was approved, allowing for
member and component society use of a
modified PCSO logo. Please contact me if you
are interested in a member or component
logo for personal or component use.
 Committee terms were adjusted to a maximum of three two-year terms to allow for
more participation with shorter terms.

 Proposed bylaw changes were passed and will
be presented to the membership for approval
at the second business meeting of the Annual
Session in Monterey, CA, on Saturday, October

 The Policy and Procedures Manual received an
extensive overhaul and was approved to assist
in day-to-day operations of the Society.
Your leaders have also been actively preparing for
the 2018 Annual Session, as well as looking ahead
to the 2019 Annual Session in Honolulu and the
spring 2019 continuing education meeting in
Las Vegas.
As the 2018 Annual Session meeting theme suggests, we have certainly been "navigating the
tides" of PCSO over the last several months. It has
been very busy since my last update, but we have
accomplished so much! There is still more work
to do, but the strides we have made thus far certainly are elevating the Society to new heights. 

 PCSO has formed a task force devoted to
issues specific to women orthodontists. The
group has focused its attention on identifying
challenges facing women orthodontists in
three primary areas: professional, volunteer/
leadership, and continuing education.
