Trustee Report

As for goals - the AAO wishes to "promote
and defend our specialty, engage and delight
our members, and drive transformation and
innovation."
A brief, three-page strategic map was initially
recommended following a meeting of the Global
Strategic Planning Committee last November.
The committee met in St. Louis and included several members of PCSO. It was a collaborative
effort facilitated by McKinley Advisors.
Information Gathering
The AAO reaffirmed its interest in gathering
more data on who we members are, where we
are, and what we do. Resolution 18-18 GLAO (S1BT), Substitute for Big Data Task Force and
Records Repository, addressed that need:

RESOLVED, that the AAO create a Big Data Task
Force consisting of AAO members, nonmembers,
and/or consultants who have an expertise and/or
interest in data analytics, to be appointed by the
AAO President. The focus of their work shall be to
assess how the AAO might develop a data analytics
program to better position the AAO and/or
specialty in propelling the AAO's mission and
strategic plan forward in new and/or more effective
ways than would be possible without the data.
The task force shall report its progress to the
House at the Virtual House of Delegates in the fall
of 2018 and shall report its final findings to the
HOD by Feb 15, 2019.

Summer 2018  PCSO Bulletin

I believe that to succeed in the future as a specialty, we must know as much about the three
W's above: Who. Where. What.
Here is a little-known, not widely advertised fact:
We know who the largest constituent is: it is
PCSO, with 2,936 members. The second largest
constituent is Southern Association of Orthodontists (SAO), with 2,579 members. All constituents
have members that serve to govern the organization through the HOD. They have skin in the
game. They are from Canada and the United
States. But do you know what the second-largest
constituency is? It is the International members,
with 2,923, just behind PCSO. Again, this includes
all categories of international members. This
group is growing (in terms of numbers), but has
no voice in governance, policy, etc.
