In what year did you graduate from your postgraduate orthodontic program, and how many
years have you been in practice?
I graduated from University of British Columbia
(UBC) in 2014 and have been practicing for the
last four-and-a-half years.
Where are your current practice and primary
office/practice located?
I practice in Vancouver and Delta, BC, Canada.
Tell us about your office.
I work as a double specialist in orthodontics and
pediatric dentistry. Wearing different hats at different times keeps me on my toes and makes life
interesting for me.

What systems/techniques have worked well for
you in private practice?
The systems I have used include temporary
anchorage devices (TADs), direct bonding, some
3-D imaging, and scanning technology.
Are you currently certified by the American Board
of Orthodontics (ABO)? If not, are you planning to
get certified, and if so, within how many years?
Yes, I am currently certified, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is on the fence. It helps
me to critically analyze exactly what is happening clinically and to build on that experience.

Are you involved in any professional or nonprofessional community service in your area, and
if so, which one(s)?
I serve on the British Columbia Dental Association Board of Directors as a District Director of
Vancouver. I am also involved with the Tam Foundation, where we give back to our community
through philanthropy, dental medical missions,
and providing access to care to the marginalized
population at our nonprofit anesthesiology clinic.
Looking back, what has been the most positive
aspect of your residency since graduation?
The alumni at UBC are a great resource and a
supportive community. The British Columbia
Society of Orthodontists (BCSO) have also been
supportive - it's great to meet orthodontists
who graduated from various programs and
mutually share pearls of wisdom with them, both
clinically and professionally.
Do you believe the curriculum within your postgraduate orthodontic program provided sufficient
depth and breadth to prepare you for the clinical
practice of orthodontic care?
Absolutely. The value of being able to have handson experience and access to board-certified clinicians who work with various appliance systems
enabled me to learn what would work best for
me after graduation. In addition, the didactic
