The Alaska State Society of Orthodontists
(ASSO) held its annual business
meeting on April 1, 2022, in conjunction
with the annual continuing
education program in Anchorage, Alaska. We reviewed
changes to our bylaws, policies, and procedures and
discussed current ASSO finances. Dr. Dan Bills presented
" The Empowered Orthodontist. " It was great to meet
together again after a two-year delay.

Alberta
As COVID cases are on the decline in
Alberta, public health measures are
planned to be removed; however
Alberta Society of Orthodontists (ASO)
members were encouraged to continue working within
their clinics while following the workplace guidelines
provided by the governing bodies.
After an initial change of date to October 2022, the
2022 annual meeting is now rescheduled back to its
original date of April 1-2, 2022. The meeting will be held
at the exquisite Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. The meeting
has invited Dr. Tim Dumore and Laura Cafik-Martin
among other guest speakers. The AGM meeting will
likely take place at the same time as the Annual Session.
The ASO Executive is looking for a treasurer and will
need a new vice president in April 2022.
The ASO has again waived all fees for the 2022 cycle.
This means that, once again, there is no cost to becoming
a member. We encourage all interested to take
advantage of this offer, because this is the time when
your membership matters the most.
The main current topic of discussion at the ASO is still
the COVID-19 practice management and back-to-work
protocols as well as the new mandatory insurance
supplied by the licensing body (Alberta Dental Association
& College; ADA&C). Regarding the mandated
insurance, the ASO Executives had some concerns
surrounding the available coverage and potential conflicts
of interests. They informed their members of the
key aspects of the issues as well as detailed the action
items of whom to contact if the members shared their
concerns. The ASO Executive has also been in many
discussions with the provincial ADA&C leadership
regarding this issue.

Arizona
On December 6, 2021, the Arizona State
Orthodontic Association (ASOA) held
its Annual Session at the prestigious
Phoenix Country Club. We offered a
continuing education (CE) course with guest speaker
Dr. Jason Cope, who lectured on " How to Become an InHouse
Aligner Powerhouse. " Following the presentation,
we had our annual meeting, during which the new officers
were installed. Dr. Alyssa Levin was introduced as the
new PCSO Arizona director, Dr. Michael Papademetriou
assumed his role as president, Dr. Payam Owtad moved
to president-elect, and Dr. Treven Rollins was elected
secretary/treasurer for AOSA. Special thanks were given
to the past-president Dr. Serrano and to Dr. Feinberg for
the four years he served as the PCSO Arizona director. Dr.
John Wachtel, who is the PCSO president elect, spoke
about the benefits of AAO and PCSO. The Annual Session
was well attended and considered a success.
In January, Dr. Papademetriou attended the AAO leadership
meeting in Orlando, Florida, which preceded
the AAO winter conference. The meeting was very
informative and well represented by all societies and
regional associations.
In February, we held the first quarterly leadership
meeting, and it was decided to send out a survey to
