Executive Director's Report
Executive Update
Well, almost exactly two years to the day, PCSO has
finally come together once again for an in-person
meeting! We are so grateful for the members who
joined us in Las Vegas for the Western Orthodontic
Conference (WOCON) Spring Session. It was a wonderful
experience for those who attended...and we
missed those who couldn't join us!

The PCSO has been persistent in its work over the past
two years. We continue with our efforts to improve
member benefits and experiences. I hope that you are
able to take advantage of these benefits and appreciate
the hard work that your volunteer leaders put in to
support all of you and the association.
Board Updates
The board met in Las Vegas, Nevada, on March 6 for its
ad interim meeting in conjunction with the WOCON
Spring Session. Following are several of the items
achieved at the most recent board meeting.
□ The board interviewed two candidates for American
Association of Orthodontists (AAO) Council
on Orthodontic Education (COE) representative.
Dr. John Zhang, Arizona, was elected to take over
the position after the term of the current COE
representative, Dr. Glenn Sameshima, concludes
in May and was confirmed by the AAO House of
Delegates.
□ The board interviewed one candidate for AAO
Council on Governmental Advocacy (COGA)
representative. Dr. Kurt Stormberg, California, was
elected to take over the position after the term
of current COE representative, Dr. Frank Beglin,
concludes in May and was confirmed by the AAO
House of Delegates.
□ Additional PCSO members were added to the
Continuing Education Committee: Drs. John
Griffiths, Hillary Lathrop, and Katie Marsh; Dr.
Alyssa Levin was also approved to join officially in
October 2022.
□ Policy changes were approved that included but
not limited to revision to the secretary/treasurer
and president-elect election process, committee
nomination process for the Continuing Education
Committee, revisions to the record retention,
disbursement procedures, and expense administration
policies. A change was made to the Spring
Continuing Education Meetings policy to allow
for the option to hold a spring meeting without
mandating it. There were also edits made to the
conflict of interest policy.
□ The Membership & Communications Committee
has been hard at work preparing to launch
a member needs assessment to include focus
groups and one-on-one interviews with PCSO
members.
□ A new critical issues task force was approved on
orthodontic staff issues.
□ The Component Relations Committee is in the
process of assisting components with critical
governance updates, including bylaws and policy
or procedure revisions, through a series of virtual
leadership development sessions with component
leadership.
