he BPFNA ~ Bautistas por la Paz staff was recently
blessed by a visit from our long-time friend Ricardo Mayol. Many BPFna members will know Ricardo
from his work as a founder of the Mayan Intercultural
Seminary in Chiapas (SIM), a school with which we've
had a long and fruitful partnership.
Ricardo has recently been endorsed by International Ministries (IM) of the ABC-USA to serve as a
Regional Consultant to encourage the development
and consolidation of the Continental Christian
Network for Peace (CCNP). The headquarters of
his work for the continent will be at the Ecumenical
Council offices in guatemala City, the capitol of the
Republic of guatemala.
His task is to coach CCNP members in theological and pastoral training for peace as well as educating
others about basic CCNP goals. Those goals include:
* Research and education for peace: developing
agreements and relationships with schools, agencies and institutions having the same principles.

* Public advocacy: monitoring violence throughout
the Americas and establishing mechanisms to
prevent violence and support victims of violence.
* Organization of special groups: including
CCNP member youths, women, men, differently abled individuals, people of African and
indigenous descent, environmentalists, the
LgBTq community, and those considered
"the least of these."
* Structural-organizational roles: Building a network of individuals and organizations with a
heart for peace in each country in the continent.
BPFNA ~ Bautistas por la Paz is exploring ways
of being supportive to this important work.

Ken Sehested Receives Associated Church
Press Award for Peacemaker Story

nce again, one of Baptist Peacemaker's writers has been given an
Associated Church Press "Best of the Christian Press" award
for material published in 2016. Ken Sehested's review of george
Williamson's book, Born in Sin, Upended in Grace, received the Award
of Excellence for a critical review in all media categories.
Here's what the judge wrote:
Oh, this one was easy. Full of joy and laughter, insightful, interesting,
and compelling -- this review made the book's subject come alive. I
laughed out loud a couple of times. On one occasion, I scrambled for
one of my civil rights histories to read more about the event. Irresistible!
Congratulations go to Ken for this well-deserved recognition.
