functions in ways that show that black
lives matter less than white lives do.
these essays are not simply rantings
against the systemic racism that mark
our personal lives and our institutions,
but are a call for all recovering racists to
become what one of the authors calls
"Prophets of the Resistance." Too often,
christian leaders have been what she
refers to as "chaplains of an oppressive
empire."
the writers are calling for church
leaders to promote a theology in which
the doctrine of salvation goes beyond
personal salvation and getting persons
into heaven. Instead, they challenge the
church to engage in the kind of preaching that challenges christians to become
agents of god's plan to turn the America
that is into the America that god wants
it to be.
This book is filled with directions
and practical suggestions as to how study
groups can analyze the racism that too
often is covert. It proposes ways in which
protest movements can be turned into
constructive political activism. the hope
the authors offer us is that, in the praxis
experienced in working for social justice,
god will transform us into people who
can live out a Biblical vision of a just
society.
I will leave it to others to point out
the shortcomings that may exist within
the pages of this book. For me, its message brought me under conviction and
challenged me to become a different
kind of person. consequently, I have left
any negative critiques by the wayside, to
be dealt with by readers more detached
than I.
