Rockwell Collins
Rob Myhlhousen, principal marketing manager for
Rockwell Collins, announced two new products from
his company, both of which are focused on developing
rule-compliant ADS-B upgrade paths for "a significant
number" of business and corporate aircraft flying with
his company's avionics suites. "We encourage our
operators to start working with their dealers to identify
upgrade paths for their aircraft and get those upgrades
scheduled so that we can ensure everybody is compliant
with ADS-B Out by the end of 2019," Myhlhousen told
AEA Convention attendees.
For Beechcraft King Airs and Hawker jets equipped
with Pro Line 21, Rockwell is offering "airspace modernization packages" that bring operational efficiencies,
mandate compliance and enhanced situational awareness "in one convenient upgrade path." Included in the
packages are rule-compliant ADS-B Out capability, flight
management system upgrades providing WAAS LPV
approaches and other functionality, and integrated flight
information system updates, plus synthetic vision on
primary flight displays.
Upgrades to Rockwell Collins' Pro Line Fusion also are
available for select Pro Line II and Pro Line 21 King Air
models, as well as the Cessna Citation CJ3. In addition to
14-inch touchscreen displays, the upgrades include ADSB Out and other functionality improvements. The company
also is offering the Pro Line 21 Advanced upgrade path for
Bombardier Challenger 300 and 605 business jets, which
will include ADS-B Out as standard equipment.
Myhlhousen also briefed attendees on new ADS-B
Out products from Rockwell Collins, which include rulecompliant versions of the GPS-4000S GPS sensor and
the TDR-94/94D transponder. An AML STC for select
Part 23 Pro Line II and legacy platforms is available,
which will address not only GPS/transponder pairing but
also facilitates equipment installation and is fully supported by the company.

Send Solutions
Despite the growing availability of in-flight internet
access, a huge number of personal, business and
corporate aircraft still lack a reliable connection to
the rest of the world. In today's society, that can be
a problem for passengers and crew alike. That's
a premise behind the Airtext line of Iridium-based
connectivity products from Send Solutions. David Gray,
founder and CEO, briefed AEA Convention attendees
on his company's progress and its latest offering.
Send Solutions' Airtext product consists of a small
"paperback-sized" FAA-approved hardware package
weighing about a pound. Once installed and connected
to an existing Iridium
satellite-based
telephone system,
Airtext allows up to
16 passengers to use
their smartphone to
send and receive SMS
messages anywhere
Send Solutions' Airtext
in the world, on the
ground or in the air. The Airtext hardware employs
Bluetooth to connect to individual smartphones, which
are required to be using a free application giving them
access to Airtext. The STC'd and PMA'd system is now
flying on several aircraft, ranging from turboprops to
wide-body business jets.
New for 2017 is Airtext+, which adds the ability
to make cellphone calls. The new product carries a
$14,950 list price and is available now. Texting over the
new system costs the same as with the original one
- about 5 cents per text message - while telephone
usage is about $1.50 per minute with a prepaid sim
card.
Whether a customer chooses the original Airtext or
the new Airtext+, Send Solutions claimed installation
is simple, easy and affordable, as is the system's
operation. The company added that Airtext/Airtext+ is
especially appropriate for customers concerned about
internet expense and usage fees, smaller aircraft where
a dedicated internet connect isn't feasible or those for
which economics don't argue in favor of expensive
upgrades, and for supplemental connectivity aboard
larger aircraft.

its goal is to "transform aviation using disruptive

Upgrades to Rockwell Collins' Pro Line Fusion also are available
for select Pro Line II and Pro Line 21 King Air models.
