Tel-Instrument Electronics'
all-in-one SDR-OMNI test set

NEW PRODUCTS

Continued from page 29

Tel-Instrument
Electronics Corp.
Calling its new
product the "world's
first all-in-one
avionics test
set," Mike Reed,
Tel-Instrument
Electronics director of sales
and marketing, introduced his company's SDR-OMNI, a
handheld/portable unit designed to perform all avionics
test functions. As its name implies, the SDR-OMNI
employs a software-defined radio transceiver to send
and receive all avionics signal types. Once the basic
hardware is acquired, users then install apps to perform
the desired functions.
The SDR-OMNI's first app release will be designed
to test transponders and DMEs. Transponders covered
include Mode A/C, Mode S and 1090 ES In and Out. The
initial release also will include test functionality for 978
MHz UAT In and Out devices, and antenna connection
testing, including VSWR and distance-to-fault. The first
release also will include a calibration app.
Release 2 is planned for March 2019 and will expand
to include nav radio testing (VOR/ILS/LOC/GS/MB) plus
communications (HF/VHF/UHF), ELTs and SELCAL,
plus TCAS I/II and TACAN. Release 3, targeted for
September 2019, will include the features of Releases 1
and 2, plus GPS position simulation.

Trans-Cal Industries
Trans-Cal Industries offers avionics and test
equipment, computer peripherals and industrial process
controls, including a popular line of altitude encoders.
New for 2018 from Trans-Cal is the model SSD120-35CRS232 series altitude digitizer/encoder, with an

altitude range from -1,000 to +35,000 feet.
The devices are all-solid-state, providing rugged and
reliable measurement of air pressure and conversion
to industry-standard data. They output one ICAO (grey
code) data stream and on two asynchronous serial
RS232 ports, the type of interface commonly used by
ADS-B Out surveillance equipment, GPS navigators,
autopilots, transponders and other avionics. Six serial
data protocols are available, selected through internal
shunts or via software.
The SSD120-35C-RS232 is approved under FAA TSO
C88a and ETSO C88a, and has been tested to conform
with MIL-STD-704E and RTCA DO-160E. Operating
voltage is 10-33Vdc, and the operating standard
temperature range is -20 to +70 degrees Celsius. It
weighs 4.3 ounces, comes with a 42-month warranty
and has a calculated MTBF in excess of eight years.
The Trans-Cal SSD120-35C-RS232 is a direct pin-forpin replacement for most in-service ACK units; adapter
plates to simplify installation and minimize installation
also are available. Warranty coverage includes direct
replacement by the company: Upon verification of a
covered failure, the unit is replaced with a new one,
which comes with a new warranty.

TruTrak Flight Systems
TruTrak got its start in 1999, and by 2000 had
produced its first autopilot prototypes. In 2002, the
company started shipping its first product, the DigiTrak,
and has sold more than 10,000 autopilots since then.
Until the last couple of years, all of its products targeted
the experimental aircraft market. But in 2017, it began
selling its Vizion autopilot as a PMA'd device available
with an FAA STC. At the 2018 AEA Convention, TruTrak
President Andrew Barker updated attendees on current
and future STC approvals, and more.
"As of right now, we have approvals for (Cessna models)
172, 175, 177, (Piper) PA-28 and PA-32s," he said. "That's
around 65 models in total we have approval for."

TruTrak's newly certified, Vizion, two-axis autopilot will
interface to the Aspen Evolution and E5.
