Data Systems'
FDAIU
available for shipping in the second quarter of 2022.
The SENTRY recorder line is the industry's smallest and
lightest available, according to the company, and offers the
lowest power consumption while still meeting the EUROCAE
ED-112A minimum performance standard. It's available in
CVR, FDR, and CVFDR configurations, and
includes digital and analog interfaces
for seamless integration across all
operators. Designed with a small
footprint in mind, FDS's SENTRY
is compact and lightweight
enough to have applications
for multiple platforms, ranging
from small unmanned aerial vehicles
and urban air mobility aircraft to larger rotorcraft, business
and air transport airplanes.
According to the company, the new FDAIU is designed
to adapt SENTRY units to fit seamlessly into existing FDR
installations with no modifications required to the aircraft,
preserving the existing mounting tray and wiring, and
saving valuable time and labor while reducing costs. When
combined with the new FDAIU, FDS's SENTRY offers a lowimpact
solution to replace legacy FDRs such as the L3Harris/
Fairchild F1000 and F800 as they reach end-of-life status.
" We are excited to launch the FDAIU to provide operators
simple, cost-effective, and future-proof upgrade solutions,
which extend their aircraft's useful life with continued safe and
compliant operations, " noted Shane LaPlante, vice president
of sales and marketing.

Flightcell International
Flightcell International's latest innovation provides
rotorcraft operators a solution for the increasing prevalence
of global requirements for mandatory cockpit recording. The
new product is the Flightcell SmartHUB, an HD video, audio,
flight data recorder and access point for USB/IP devices.
" Our new SmartHUB is the perfect tool to meet increasing
requirements we are observing globally for mandatory cockpit
recording, especially for government and public sector
rotorcraft operators, " said John Wyllie, Flightcell CEO.
The Flightcell SmartHUB can monitor a range of
parameters, including GPS position data, altitude and speed,
pressure altitude, vertical rate, turn rate, pitch, roll and
G-force. It will detect impacts and can be configured to log
specific flight exceedances. The SmartHUB also is a flight
optimization tool, enabling operators, maintainers and
flight crews to review human and aircraft performance and
allow operations to be monitored for both efficiency and
safety. Flightcell has also developed its own application to
complement the Flightcell SmartHUB, so all recordings can
be viewed and analyzed post-flight.
In the past, the cost, weight and complexity of installing
recorders in light aircraft and helicopters were prohibitive.
Instead, according to the company, installing the SmartHUB
is simple and cost effective, and can be accomplished as a
minor change. It offers various mounting options to provide a
virtual plug-and-play recording capability.
The new Flightcell SmartHUB also integrates with
Flightcell's DZMx, the company's flagship satcom product. In
addition to the SmartHUB, the Flightcell Camera has been
designed to integrate with the SmartHUB. The Flightcell
Camera is USB-powered and also is easily installed. Among
other features, the Flightcell Camera is an aviation-compliant
Wi-Fi access point, integrating a USB hub and Ethernet
switch. It also offers a hardened, internal and removable SD
card slot and a fast-charging USB-A port.

FreeFlight Systems
Tony Rios, FreeFlight Systems president, used his
presentation at the AEA Convention to update attendees on
the status of 5G cellular signal interference with legacy radar
altimeters.
" The FAA has released airworthiness directives and
NOTAMs (notices to air missions) restricting the use of certain
radar altimeters in certain operations, " he said. " The issue
is unknown performance within the protection radius around
5G. Current radar altimeters can have a protection radius of
more than 2 miles. Our 6500 Terrain series has an AMOC
(alternate means of
compliance) radius
of just 0.1 nautical
miles, a tenth of a
mile. That is going
to enable much
greater operations
in the environment
of 5G.
