marketing for the company, also updated attendees on
Avidyne's Vantage 12 flight display system, which is a dual
12-inch diagonal screen upgrade for legacy Cirrus SR20s and
SR22s with the Entegra flight deck, giving them synthetic vision,
a hybrid touch user interface, dual-AHRS MFD reversion
and much more. Harper told attendees his company expects
FAA certification later in 2023.
He also noted updated software for the company's IFD, Atlas
and Helios product lines, AviOS, to version 10.3.1.2, which
Harper characterized as a minor release incorporating product
improvements and new features. Earlier, when Avidyne
released the AviOS 10.3 version, new features of the upgrade
included visual approach capability, VNAV, tandem/remote
VHF comm/nav tuning in dual installations, oceanic mode CDI
scaling, an interface to Garmin's GI 275, radar altitude display
via ARINC 429, extended support for flight operational quality
assurance program compliance, improved Wi-Fi integration
with Stratus, Foreflight and other Wi-Fi devices, and up to 10
user profiles.

Barfield
ADTS-3250
air data
test set
Barfield is part of the Air France Industries KLM Engineering
& Maintenance network, a major maintenance, repair
and overhaul provider operating from facilities in the U.S.:
two near Miami, Florida, plus others near Phoenix, Arizona;
Atlanta, Georgia; and Louisville, Kentucky. Among its other
business lines, Barfield is also a ground support test equipment
manufacturer of products including air data/pitot-static
testers, RVSM air data testers, APU testers, cable tensiometers
and transponder test sets. Other GSTE roles Barfield
manufacturers equipment for include fuel quantity, pressure
testers and turbine temperature. At the 2023 AEA Convention,
Richard Brinley of Raptor Scientific told attendees about the
forthcoming ADTS-3250 air
data test set.
Barfield's newest product
is based on Raptor's
venerable ADTS-3350
series test equipment but
features a smaller, lighter
form factor as well as an
included 7-inch touchscreen
remote control unit
to operate the ADTS-3250
(a 25-foot remote cable is
also included), allowing the technician to control the test set
from the cockpit. The Raptor ADTS-3250 will be available in
either a 2- or 3-channel configuration, with the third channel
intended for aircraft equipped with a smart probe, to test
AoA and AoS. The 2-channel version can be upgraded to a
3-channel configuration.
According to Raptor, the unit's graphical user interface is
" intuitive and virtually eliminates the learning curve. " Each
aircraft being tested can have individually programmed test
sequences, allowing for semi-automated testing on the flight
line. Aircraft profiles, images and test sequences are easily
added, edited or removed using the included software. The
ADTS-3250 will be offered with a standard two-year warranty,
with a one-year calibration period included, plus 48-hour guaranteed
turnaround calibration services, free software updates
and a loaner program to reduce downtime. Production is
expected to begin around June 2023.

Blue Avionics
Blue Avionics is an original
equipment manufacturer of avionics,
aircraft circuit cards, mechanical
mounting devices and
brackets, and wiring harnesses
across fleets. The company
said its core competency is in
adaptable avionics, equipment
specifically designed
BA-650 A3U
and configured to perform hundreds of aircraft functions to
support essential and critical avionics systems. And Blue Avionics
is backing up its claim with a new box, the BA-650 A3U.
As company founder Ross Cairns told AEA Convention
attendees, the BA-650 A3U is a Level A adaptable avionics
unit, designed for critical aircraft systems. Initial application
will be on a transport category aircraft's smoke detector
system and as a cargo door controller. In both applications,
it's the same box, but with configuration differences. Cairns
also announced an existing product in his company's lineup,
the BA-540-AAU, is being deployed as a replacement for
the now-discontinued Skylight Avionics DDA (discrete digital
adapter), performing LPV annunciation system logic and
ADS-B integrity monitoring.
New STCs and certifications for the BA-540 AAU include
dual Garmin GTN 650 interfaces aboard Embraer 120 regional
transport variants, obtained by Peregrine Avionics. The
Blue Avionics unit connects to the existing flight data acquisition
unit and flight data recorder. Another STC is for the ATR72
series, where it provides ADS-B integrity monitoring and
