TRAINING SITE:

THE COMMITMENT
TO TRAINING CONTINUES
The fall months of November and December include
a variety of professional development opportunities, as
the Aircraft Electronics Association plays host to four
training courses in the Dan Derby Center for Professional
Development at its international headquarters in Lee's
Summit, Missouri.
In fact, three courses are offered during the month of
November.
First, a BASIC WIRING AND AVIONICS
INSTALLATION COURSE IS SET FOR NOV. 3-5. It is
designed for currently employed repair station personnel, A&P mechanics and others interested in improving or
acquiring the skills necessary to perform avionics installations in general aviation aircraft. This three-day seminar
employs in-depth theory and hands-on lab exercises to
immerse the attendee in the best practices used to plan,
manage and install a general aviation avionics panel. In
addition, the course is FAA-accepted for 26 hours toward
IA renewal training. The hands-on installation lab includes
a Garmin GNS 530, GMA 340 and MD200-206CDI.
Immediately following is the NAVIGATION SYSTEMS
LINE MAINTENANCE AND TESTING COURSE ON NOV. 6.
This course will provide in-depth knowledge of theory,
operation, testing and troubleshooting for common
aircraft navigation systems, including VOR navigation
systems, instrument landing systems and global positioning systems. Students will receive training on the
setup and use of the Aeroflex IFR 4000 associated with
the testing of aircraft navigation systems. The course
is ideal for individuals who have completed the AEA's
Basic Wiring and Avionics Installation course, along

with those who want
to enhance their aircraft line maintenance
knowledge and understanding of navigation systems
and their testing.
The DIGITAL DATABUS THEORY AND ANALYSIS
COURSE TAKES PLACE NOV. 7. As today's modern airplanes become much more technologically advanced,
so must the professionals that maintain them. The
advanced avionics and instrumentation systems used
in these aircraft rely on various forms of digital databus
communication. Understanding digital databus theory is
becoming more important for avionics technicians, and
even A&P mechanics, to effectively test and troubleshoot
these highly advanced aircraft systems.
Finally, the CERTIFIED REPAIR STATION TRAINING
COURSE IS SCHEDULED FOR DEC. 8-12. This week-long
course is divided into training modules designed for startup repair stations, as well as mature operations looking
to improve their understanding of the regulations, perform internal audits and edit repair station manuals. The
modules will be presented by Ric Peri, AEA vice president
of government and industry affairs. The course is for
current quality managers, technicians, mechanics and
repairmen who are involved in the management of a
repair station, as well as individuals looking to establish a
14 CFR Part 145 repair station.
