Meet the Teachers for the 2018 Washington, DC Seminar
American Needlepoint Guild (ANG), Embroiderers' Guild of
America (EGA), Embroidery Association of Canada (EAC),
National Academy of Needlearts (NAN), National Embroidery
Teachers Association (NETA), The National Needlearts
Association (TNNA), Royal School of Needlework (RSN)

Sandra Arthur

Sandra teaches at local, regional, national, and international
levels and is a Certified Senior Master Teacher through
ANG. She is designer/co-owner of Duo Designs, Inc. She's
published in Needle Pointers, and Needlepoint Now and
is the author of the successful Shapes of Needlepoint
series of books, for which she has been awarded the
prestigious Literary Award by ANG, and the new Pocketbook
Series. Sandra is active in ANG, EGA, NETA, NAN, TNNA
and past member of ANG's Board of Directors. Sandy
and her husband of 55+ years have two children, two
granddaughters, and three great-grandchildren. They live in
Lexington, Kentucky.

Kurdy Biggs

Kurdy is a counted canvas designer, teacher and owner
of Threedles Needleart Designs. Kurdy holds a Level II
Teaching Certificate from NAN. Her geometric designs have
won numerous awards from ANG, NAN, EGA, TNNA, and
Woodlawn Needlework Show. She has been published in
Needle Pointers, Needlepoint Now, and Cross Stitch and
Needlework. Kurdy has taught for national ANG, EGA and NAN

Janet Zickler Casey

Janet holds a B.S. degree from the University of Texas in
Medical Technology, a field from which she recently retired
from after 40 years. Janet has taught for over 20 years,
including ANG Seminars, Callaway School of Needle Arts,
Blue Bonnet Studios, and many ANG and EGA chapters.
She has also taught at several local shops in the Houston
area, where she makes her home with her husband Steve.
An ANG Life Patron, she is an avid stitcher, designer, and
teacher of needlepoint and is known for creating whimsical
three-dimensional characters for holiday and festive
occasions.

Jo Ippolito Christensen

Jo has taught needlepoint classes and presented programs
for the ANG Seminar, ANG and EGA chapters, TNNA, many
needlepoint shops, and other groups. Most notably, she
wrote The Needlepoint Book in 1976 and she revised it in
1999 and again in 2015. The Needlepoint Book was selected
as The Needlepoint Book of the Year in 1977. Jo received the
TEN Award from TNNA in 1998. Jo lives in Houston, Texas,
with her husband, Ralph Smith.

Sandie Cormaci-Boles

Sandie has a passion for learning and sharing her knowledge
about all forms of embroidery but particularly counted work,
samplers and the history of needlework. She has taken
many courses and classes from ANG and EGA. She has been
designing and teaching embroidery professionally to children
and adults since 1992.

Dawn Donnelly

Dawn Donnelly holds Level II certification and completed
the Teacher cum Laude program with NAN. She teaches
nationally and locally for ANG, EGA, and NAN. Currently, Dawn
is experimenting with handmade paper and finding ways to
use it in her needle art, which earned her Best in Show for
her piece Paper & Stitches at NAN's Assembly in 2017. Dawn
stays busy volunteering her time for local guilds and for NAN
as Membership Chairman, Dean of Faculty and Registrar.

Barbara Elmore

Barbara has been designing needlepoint canvases for the
trade since 1985 and teaching since 1992. Basically a selftaught stitcher, after taking her first class from Brenda Hart,
she is known for incorporating unusual techniques and
materials into her stitched pieces. She has painted threads
after they are stitched, used molds to create dimension on
the raw canvas, added needle felting, stump work, and nontraditional materials such as metal wires and elastic ribbons.
She exhibits her work at TNNA, and is a member of ANG and
EGA. She has taught for guilds, shops, and stitching retreats
all over the US.

Toni Gerdes

Toni holds Level II Teachers' certification from NAN in canvas
embroidery and is on their Board as the Director of Education,
and was Assistant Director of Teachers' Certification. Toni is
president of Mile High ANG and is currently the President of
NETA. She has received numerous awards for her designs. Toni
has taught for ANG, EGA, and NAN, as well as guilds and shops.
She has been published in Needle Pointers, Needlepoint Now,
and in Needle Arts as one of the Designers Across America.
She enjoys all types of stitching and sharing her knowledge

Diane Herrmann

Diane holds Level II Teacher Certification in canvas
embroidery from NAN. She has taught for local and regional
guilds and chapters, and has received several prestigious
awards and honors for her work. As a retired University
of Chicago mathematics teacher, Diane often uses math
concepts as inspiration for her designs and presentations.
Diane strongly supports the integration of needle art/fiber art
and mathematics and is a contributing author of Crafting by
Concepts: Fiber Arts and Mathematics.
