2018 Chairman Training
Critical to Success of Committees

The annual rite of spring meetings began at
NCIS with elected representatives from the 18
NCIS Regional/State Crop Insurance Committees in late March for training and instruction.
These committees form the grass-roots level of
the NCIS committee structure which provides
valuable input and feedback to the crop insurance industry about how the needs of farmers
are being met by crop insurance. NCIS relies on
these committees to annually sponsor loss adjuster training to ensure well trained adjusters are
available to properly and promptly adjust claims
when disaster strikes.
Not unlike baseball spring training, rosters
of returning and new chairmen are established
and instruction on the fundamentals of committee leadership are provided. To ensure that
these committees understand their role, function
properly and are effective in accomplishing their
responsibilities, fundamental instruction is provided on:
* Antitrust laws and compliance;
* Program Integrity;
* NCIS Bylaws and Crop Insurance Committee
Guidelines
* History of the NCIS research program and its
importance;
* Planning and conducting effective meetings
and summer schools and field days; and,
* How to make recommendations about policies, procedures or research.
Some of the regional/state committees meet
on a regular monthly or quarterly basis and others as needed. All member companies are notified of the meetings and strongly encouraged to
attend, listen and discuss issues that may have
happened or that could potentially be a concern
for all companies. Each committee has a NCIS liaison who is the contact point to ensure that all
member companies receive notices and minutes
of the meetings. If an issue needs to be forwarded on to a NCIS standing committee, the NCIS
