ways for the benefit of the weather radar community. There is
much to be learned by cross-disciplinary interaction between the
engineering and the meteorological communities. Advances such
as small, portable X-band radar systems for low-level weather
observation and the development of multifunction systems such
as the MPAR system necessitate the infusion of knowledge from
traditional radar engineering into the meteorological community.
Better knowledge of atmospheric phenomenology can also enhance the specification and design of sensors, which operate in
nonideal environments.
