NEOs to increase support for planetary defense. With smartphones
becoming increasingly popular and being an essential tool for daily
life across the globe, the group proposed the design of a game application (app) for mobiles that will reach billions of people of all
ages, educating and entertaining them.
The decision of this subteam after going through the IPPD
steps was to concentrate on the development of a
platform to provide a vast range of technical and
collective knowledge to the general public by developing gaming apps and websites. The subteam
also proposed the creation of an application that can
be used by the amateur astronomers to report new
NEO discoveries.

introduction section. Our matrix team structure included department liaisons that ensured we covered all seven departments' requirements within our group project, as seen in Figure 5. Both the
compliance matrix and department requirements were classified
as either functional, performance, operational, interface, or drive
requirement. These served to verify and validate our work through
either inspection, analysis, test, or demonstration [19].

PHASE II: THREAT SPECIFICATIONS AND
SYSTEMS ENGINEERING PLAN
In this phase, we established our specifications
and worked on the systems engineering plan. The
systems engineering management plan lays out
the framework by which READI would become a
reality. The product design specification involved
the selection of a scenario we would analyzing, its
characteristics, and how we would frame the scenario from each working group. We decided to go
for a less predictable and analyzed threat, a comet,
which was looked at from optimistic and pessimistic points of view. The details are shown in Figure 4.
We also established some requirements which
were tracked on a compliance matrix. One of the
ISU's requirements was to be compliant with the
seven departments it offers as discussed in our
JANUARY 2018
