AVIDYNE received FAA supplemental type certificate approval to
activate the integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth functionality on the IFD440
and IFD540 FMS/GPS/NAV/COM systems. According to Avidyne, the
MK10 Bluetooth keyboard will be the first Bluetooth-enabled functionality,
allowing pilots to wirelessly control their panel-mounted IFD440 or IFD540
system. This approval also gives third-party tablet app developers access
to both Bluetooth and Wi-fi data streams using Avidyne's previously
released Software Developer Kit. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi functionality
requires IFD440/
IFD540 software

flying even easier by
providing wireless
control of many of
the IFD440/IFD540
functions," said TOM
HARPER, Avidyne's
director of marketing.
"And because the
440 and 540 have
integrated Bluetooth
and Wi-Fi capability, all current and future
owners can enable this and future functionality
via software, without the need to add expensive
remote boxes and additional wiring."
Initially, the MK10 will allow remote entry
of waypoints and flight plans, plus map range
changing, and alpha-numeric data entry. An
upcoming release (R10.2) will enable additional MK10 functions, including
page and tab selection and Direct TO.

Avidyne also received FAA certification of Release 10.1.1 software for
IFD440 and IFD 540 FMS/GPS/NAV/COM systems. The company noted
that Release 10.1.1 adds a number of performance improvements and
product enhancements to the IFD440 and IFD540, including activation of
the integrated Bluetooth and Wi-Fi capabilities

With decades of experience in the
business and commercial aviation segments, Chiang has focused on avionics
support contract sales and has strong
connections with key players in the
local community and a loyal following
for contract renewals, according to
the company. He will work out of the
Maxcraft office in Vancouver.
Chiang will be responsible for working with aircraft owners, directors of
maintenance, and/or operations managers to assist them in how best to structure their avionics repair strategy. He is
a licensed AME-E avionics technician
with more than 40 years of experience.
