BY THE NUMBERS
According to a SCIPP International survey of about 80 associations:
of access across platforms. They have lived
most of their lives online. They prefer
to do all things online," Mann says.
"Associations have to transition to more
sophisticated web integration and that
means more sophisticated cybersecurity."
Trochlil says some of the shift will
happen naturally. "It's an interesting
paradox. Millennials are open to sharing
just about every detail of their daily lives,
but they are very interested in knowing
about privacy and security policies," he
says. "It shouldn't necessarily change how
things are done, but there will be more
scrutiny of the association. Millennials
are more likely to catch things like an
http vs. https website."
This may be an important shift given
the apparent shortage of people entering the information technology security
field. "The development of well-qualified
cybersecurity professionals has become a
resounding issue, since there is a dire lack
of these skilled professionals to meet the
demands of industry and government,"
says Marc Noble, cybersecurity practices
manager for ISACA.
A recent survey conducted by ISACA,
formerly known as Information Systems
Audit and Control Association, found
that 90 percent of associations believe
there is a shortage of skilled cybersecurity professionals. The study also found
that 41 percent of associations report
plans to hire more cybersecurity professionals within the year, but expect it
to be difficult to find them. Only three
percent planned to hire cybersecurity professionals and expected
it to be easy. The other 56 percent
had no plans or were unsure of their
association's plans to hire.
