in the publishing environment.
Keynote speaker Roger Schonfeld, an
expert in the evolving roles of the academic library, scholarly publisher, and

Lisa Black has joined the American
Society of Civil Engineers as its new
senior manager of diversity and inclusion. In her new role, Black will provide
staff leadership to the Committee on
Diversity and Inclusion and will serve
as the staff liaison to external partners,
including the DiscoverE Diversity
Council, the Society of Women Engineers, the National Society of Black
Engineers, and the Society for Hispanic
Professional Engineers. She will also
provide counsel to ASCE senior staff
and volunteer leadership on matters
related to diversity and inclusion.
Jennifer Schafer recently joined
the Society as administrator of global

learned society, will share how he sees
libraries adapting and developing new
strengths as they find their place in the
ecosystem going forward.
In a session titled "Symbiosis - Is Collaboration the New Innovation?" Alice
Meadows of ORCID, Kristen Ratan of
the Collaborative Knowledge Foundation,
and Mike Conlon of Vivo will discuss ways
that collaboration between entities that
support the scholarly publishing enterprise
create efficiency and fuel innovation.
Two new journal models - an MIT
journal that publishes disciplinary boundaries and one that conducts peer review prior
to data collection and analysis - will be
presented in the session, "Evolving Species
- The Journal in Transition," by Travis
Rich of the Journal of Design and Science and
Sara Bowman of Registered Reports.
The day will wrap up with a final session

titled "Biodiversity - A Healthy Ecosystem
Thrives on Fresh Ideas," presented by Phil
Jones of Digital Science, Judy Ruttenberg
of the Association of Research Libraries,
and Gary Dunham of Indiana University
Press. This session will look at the transformational promise of open, linked, and
shared data, international repository alignments, and SHARE collaborations, and
conclude with an overview of the current
trends in scholarly publishing from the
perspective of the university press.
