AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY
NAMES NEW EDITORIAL LEADERSHIP
The American Chemical Society has
announced two new appointments to its
editorial leadership. Gregory Scholes,
Ph.D., of Princeton University will
serve as deputy editor of the Journal
of Physical Chemistry Letters, a premier
physical chemistry journal publishing
original scientific advances in physical
chemistry, chemical physics, and materials science.
Scholes succeeds Prashant Kamat,
Ph.D., who served as the deputy editor
of the journal since its inception in 2010;
Kamat has stepped down from the Journal
of Physical Chemistry Letters to take on
the role of editor in chief of ACS Energy
Letters, a new peer-reviewed journal for
researchers working on clean-energy
technologies. Kamat is a Rev. John A.

Zahm Professor of Science in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and
Radiation Laboratory at the University
of Notre Dame.
Scholes, who is a senior fellow at the
Canadian Institute for Advanced Research, has made a significant impact in
the fields of physical chemistry, materials
science, and biophysics. He has served as
a senior editor for the Journal of Physical
Chemistry since 2009 and the Journal of
Physical Chemistry Letters since 2011. He
also serves as an Editorial Advisory Board
member for a number of journals.
In addition, ACS announced that
John R. Yates, Ph.D., of the Scripps
Research Institute will serve as editor in
chief of the Journal of Proteome Research,
a leading peer-reviewed journal in the

Hahn Professor of Chemical Physiology
and Molecular and Cellular Neuroscience, has served as an associate editor
for Analytical Chemistry since 2001 and
contributes his expertise to numerous
journal editorial advisory boards. Yates
has published more than 800 research
articles and holds several patents for his
innovations in proteomics and mass spectrometry. n

The Rockefeller University Press has adopted Sheridan's XML-based article
workflow, ArticleExpress, for The Journal of Cell Biology, The Journal of Experimental Medicine, and The Journal of General Physiology. In this new workflow, authors,
editors, and STM publishers can easily review and directly edit article content in
a browser application while still maintaining the structure of the underlying
XML. In addition, the HTML presentation allows authors to review onlineonly elements such as multi-media content, supplemental material, and a
variety of linked elements.
RUP's leading scientific journals are the first in the STM journal community to implement ArticleExpress, and the staff at RUP worked closely with
Sheridan during its development.
In other news, Sheridan has expanded its automated print management
system Sheridan Select™ to include a self-service component, allowing publishers to upload a book or journal title and place a print-on-demand order
within a single transaction.
Upon logging in to the Sheridan Select portal and initiating a POD order,
publishers can define and order brand new titles in addition to selecting from
their existing titles. Once the title setup is complete, they attach print files and
place their order. The entire process takes only a few minutes to complete,
presenting significant timesaving and efficiency to publishers. Orders are fed directly to Sheridan's digital print division for automated POD and fulfillment. n
