for quite some time, but the modern-day
appropriation applies to a relationship
developed between two people, typically
online, when one person is not true to
their actual identity. Oftentimes, this
fabricated person has the intent to defraud
their counterpart in some way. While the
cover concept highlights the relationship
between a man and a woman, it actually represents any relationship and the
importance of knowing just who is getting
access to your innermost information.
So why the retro feel? Many old-school,
sci-fi movies had a plot focus of an ambiguous intruder who never had a full character identity, but enough of a mystery
to keep audiences on the edge of their
seats. The design mirrors the fact that
the individuals and entities threatening
association data security are also mysterious and unknown.

"I love the retro-romance theme of
this cover applied to a very contemporary
topic," says Kalogeridis. "It stays away
from the obvious choice of something
more high-tech, and instead, builds on
the idea that associations must use good
sense in protecting their relationships
with their members in a world where any
organization is vulnerable to cyberattack."
The cover's abstract and conceptual
design feeds into the audience's curiosity
and encourages them to take a second
glance. Similarly, the cover story prompts
associations to take a second look at their
